Draw the strat on the real map
Tools down the left, the map in the middle, notes along the bottom. Pick the map, put the utility where it lands and the players where they stand, and box the order it happens in.
- Utility where it lands. Smoke, flash, HE, molotov, decoy and the bomb, in the same colours and icons as the 2D demo replay — a smoke on a strat is the same grey as a smoke in a replay.
- Drawn at its real size. Each map's own scale sets how big a smoke is, so you can see whether the one you placed actually covers the doorway.
- Players as T and CT. Drop a dot for each position and it numbers itself within its side — a set piece says "a CT holds here", and that does not go stale when somebody leaves the roster.
- The order of the execute. Draw a box round something and label it — "take this first", "then here" — with the caption in the box's own colour, so the order reads at a glance.
- Pen and arrows. Freehand or straight, in six colours, with 30 steps of undo and an eraser that takes a whole stroke rather than scrubbing pixels.
- Notes underneath. The calls, the fallbacks and what to do if they stack the site, under the picture they belong to.
- Right on any screen. Everything is stored relative to the map, so a strat drawn on a monitor opens correctly on a phone or a projector.
Made to be read by the roster
A strat is something a coach draws once and five players read many times, usually the night before a match and often on a phone. So every player on the team opens the same page the coach drew on — the same picture, with the drawing tools off — and nobody can move your smokes by accident.
Each one is filed by map and by side, with the call written underneath the picture: the timing, the fallbacks, what to do if they stack the site. The map is redrawn in the same clean style as the replay, so a strat drawn on a monitor stays sharp on a projector.
And because the utility is the replay's own, a smoke on a strat is the same size and the same grey as the one the team watched land in last night's demo — which is the point of drawing it here rather than in a paint program.
Your stratbook, in one place
Linked, not imported
Most teams keep their stratbook in a Google Doc and it is not moving. Link it — one per map if you like — and it opens inside the page, next to that map. The doc stays the one copy you edit, so there are never two books disagreeing.
The picture, where the team is talking
Type /strat in your server, start typing a name, and the bot posts the
strat for the whole channel. Only members of your team can use it, and the picture
is redrawn every time the strat is saved.
Already written when they join
A stand-in reads the same executes everyone else read, rather than the version somebody can remember on the night. Link it from a piece of assigned training and you can see whether they opened it.
Not an upsell
Drawing and reading strats is in Starter, Team and Pro alike. Coaches and the owner draw; every player on the roster can open them.
Questions
Can we keep our Google Doc stratbook?
Yes. The stratbook holds links — one per map if you like — and shows the doc inside the page, next to the map. It is not an import, so the doc stays the one copy you edit.
Who can draw and edit strats?
The owner and coaches. Every player on the team can open and read any strat — the same page, with the drawing tools off.
Which maps can I draw on?
Ancient, Anubis, Dust2, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke, Overpass, Train, Vertigo and Cache, each redrawn in one clean style that stays sharp when you zoom in.
Do strats name my players?
No — on purpose. Players are T and CT dots that number themselves as you place them, because a set piece says "a CT holds here", and which of your five is doing it changes between scrims while the strat does not. Nothing goes stale when somebody leaves.
Can I post a strat in Discord?
On Team and Pro, yes: type /strat in your server, pick it by name, and the bot posts the picture for the channel. A strat posted to Discord is one Discord has a copy of, so keep private set pieces out of channels other teams can read.
